Program Description:

Do you suspect your student has dyslexia? In this informative webinar, participants will closely examine the characteristics of dyslexia and recommendations from the International Dyslexia Association for assessing this type of learning disability. Participants will examine the critical areas of assessment that extend beyond reading and spelling performance and will be introduced to many of the standardized tests commonly used to make the dyslexia diagnosis. A number of case studies will be introduced to further illustrate how a diagnosis of dyslexia can be made.

Explain the neurobiological basis of dyslexia and the role of genetics in the diagnosis of dyslexia.

Discover the critical areas of assessment as recommended by IDA (International Dyslexia Association) for a dyslexia evaluation.

Marianne Nice is a speech-language pathologist and reading specialist with over 20 years of experience in K-12 education. Inspired by her dyslexic mother, Marianne specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia and related literacy disorders. She regularly provides professional development and consultation to school systems both locally and nationally. Marianne is formerly an adjunct faculty member for the University of New Hampshire's Speech-Language Pathology program, teaching a course in language and literacy disorders. She has been an eight-time speaker at the ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) National Convention and recently spoke at the 2019 International Dyslexia Association's National Convention. Marianne lives in the U.S. with her husband, also a teacher, and her two children.
