This 90 minute presentation is designed for administrators, teachers, parents and advocates alike.

  • Review of the neurobiological basis for dyslexia and the myths
  • Examine the underlying linguistic components of early reading and how these components differ for individuals with dyslexia
  • Learn how achievement gaps are formed and how school systems can respond with appropriate MTSS/RTI models in place
  • Examine interventions that are best designed for students diagnosed with dyslexia and why they work
  • Learn the “must have” components of a multi sensory Orton-Gillingham based lesson plan and key questions to ask when evaluating such approaches
  • Review of what to look for in strong IEP goals
  • Learn some of the common pitfalls that prevent students from making aggressive gains

Marianne Nice
Marianne Nice

Marianne Nice is a speech-language pathologist and reading specialist with 20 years experience in K-12 education. Marianne specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia and related literacy disorders. She regularly provides professional development and consultation to school systems both locally and nationally. As a consultant, Marianne works with schools on the implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support models to minimize achievement gaps in literacy and math. She is formerly a member of adjunct faculty at the University of New Hampshire’s Speech-Language Pathology program, teaching a course in language and literacy disorders. She has been an eight-time speaker at the ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) National Convention and recently spoke at the 2019 International Dyslexia Association’s National Convention. Marianne lives southern New Hampshire with her husband, also a teacher, and her two children ages 16 and 13.
